A look ahead to the Cannes Film Festival

Next month will see the 62nd Cannes Film Festival, or le Festival de Cannes as it is also known, being held to celebrate the world of film in Cannes, France. Founded in 1946, the festival is one of the most influential festivals in the world and will be held 13th to 24th May, 2009.

Up, the new animation from John Lasseter and the Disney Pixar studios is set to be the Opening Ceremony film. This will be a World Premiere in Disney Digital 3-D on Wednesday 13th May.

Twenty films will compete for the prestigious Palme d’Or award. Other news for the festival includes Quentin Tarantino’s WWII film Inglourious Basterds, which will premiere in the competition at the festival.

Mobile Phone Boarding Passes

If you’re looking into a bargain holiday to the French capital, Paris and if you choose to fly with Air France, you may be one of the many passengers taking part in a trial being run by the French airline where electronic boarding passes are being linked into people’s mobiles.

Air France has launched this initiative as ‘world premier for international round-trip flights’ and the trial has begun between Paris Charles de Gaulle airport and the Dutch capital, Amsterdam.

Beautiful Brittany

A trip to Brittany is worthwhile to experience the breathtaking, windswept beaches of France.  The people in Brittany have steadfastly protected and nurtured their ancient culture, cuisine and language making it an area separate in identity from the rest of the country and a region that can be visited exclusively.

Brittany was originally called Armorica by the invading Romans in 56BC.  However it was the claimed by the Clets in the 5th century and renamed the area Brittany.  Over the centuries Brittany was handed from one royal dynasty to another until eventually it was absorbed into France in 1532.  The French have tried on occasions to ban the Breton language but to no avail and the language is widely spoken across Brittany today.
